Why I Like
SNSD:Okay, so I know not many ask me this, but a lot have been giving me this expression where they look like they’re questioning my sanity whenever I tell them I like SNSD.
I’m writing this solely out of a classmate of mine who openly criticized my liking to them. I’ll answer based on the questions she has asked me.
Why do you like a Korean group? You’re not Korean/don’t speak Korean/etc.
Music is universal. If Koreans listen to American music, why can’t Americans listen to Korean music? All I can answer to this is that I listen to whatever my ear catches, and it just so happens to catch Korean pop music. Plus, I tend to love foreign music more than American music. Again, it’s personal preference, it’s not like I’m shoving down K-pop into anyone’s throat but my own (because I like it).
Why like a Korean girl group and not a boy group?
To begin with, the girl groups’ music came to me before I had a chance to listen to the boy groups’, so obviously I was interested in them before the boys. The first two K-pop songs I listened to was Nobody and Gee. Don’t get me wrong, I love the boy groups, but there’s something about girl groups that appeal to me on a more personal basis than boy groups. I think it’s because they set an example for me: How to behave with friends, how to behave in public, even what styles I should try out!
Out of all the Korean girl groups, why SNSD?
This I can answer because I know this is true.
1. They’re talented: Yes, they don’t have a range of 5-6 octaves and they’re not the best dancers/entertainers. But they CAN sing and dance and have stage presence. Don’t believe me? Watch a show where they’re asked to sing an English song/ someone else’s song/ re-indition of their own song and you’ll see what I mean.
2. They’re down-to-earth: The reason why there’s so many controversies around them is because of the things they say on shows. I don’t find it offensive at all. They could have stayed quiet or chosen a more safer response, but instead they choose to voice out their opinion and not everyone likes it. And through the thickest crap, they stay strong together no matter what; they have a bond that no other girl group has because of that. Watch a variety show with all nine of them to see what I mean.
3. They’re beautiful: Physically- Absolutely! But they’re not stick-skinny, just healthy bodies and natural faces (no plastic surgery). Character-wise- Absolutely! The reason why I found Girls’ Generation beautiful is because of their personalities. They each have a likeable personality with strong morals that sets a light for others to follow. They personally changed me for the better. I’ve become a little more confident with my looks and have become more amiable through their example. And because they did that much to me, that’s why I support them like I do, even if they’re halfway around the world. I’m proud to be representing a group that represents strong, beautiful, independent ladies.
